Some of the ladies at KI Athletics!
Day 2 of the CrossFit Games was the day where we really took advantage of the spectator experience: the food, the vendors, the mini competitions, and the sports series area. Ana, Ben, Dheeraj and I woke up at 6:45am, put on our blue Khalipa shirts, ate a quick breakfast, got coffee, applied tons of sunscreen, and then headed to the Home Depot Center to catch the men's WOD4 event at 8am. The Home Depot Center was packed from the very early morning! I believe it was almost at full capacity!
Individual WOD4: Triplet Sprint. Four rounds for time:
- 5 Muscle-Ups
- 10 Deadlift 225#/165#
- 15 GHD Sit-Ups
- 50/100/150/200 yard Sprint
The length of the sprint increased by 50m each round.
2. Jason on the Muscle-Ups.
3. His pace was awesome! Jason in the lead.
4. Sprinting to the finish line! Jason's time was 7:28 for fourth place!
Individual WOD5: Skills 2.
- 1 rep max Chest-to-Bar Pull-Up for load
- 1 rep max Snatch for load
- Jug carry for max distance in 60s
The women had it rough on this workout since they had to go right after finishing WOD4. Nevertheless, some impressive performances!
5. Elyse Umeda from Hawaii! No Ka Oi!
6. Camille Leblanc-Bazinet kicking ass on the weighted CTB Pull-Ups! Half her body weight!
7. Kris made snatches look easy.
8. Neal Maddox's 225# snatch!
9. Chris Spealler also rocked the weighted CTB Pull-ups! That's 90# at 145# body weight!
10. Jason on the snatch!
Lunch Break. I had a double-double protein style at In-N-Out and some Coconut water since Wahoo's ran out of their chicken products. Ran into my college classmate and partner for many projects, Greg!
11. Me and my CMU buddy, Greg!
WOD at the WODhopper booth. Instead of just handing out shirts for free, WODhopper hosted WODs where they gave you a shirt to wear and if you sweat in it, you own it! The WOD was chosen at random and anybody can participate. Ben, Ana, and I decided to give it a try. Our WOD was 1min AMRAP: Burpees. I managed to get 28 burpees. I believe someone else got 38. Crazy!
12. WODing for shirts! Check the crowd cheering us on!
13. After the WOD.
Afternoon with Valley CrossFitters. Ana and I spent half our afternoon hanging out with our new Valley CrossFit friends. We caught up with Mike and Shaul and they even invited us to hang out at their tent and have a few drinks! Afterwards we ran into Casey. We got drinks at the bar. This is one of the things I like so much about the CrossFit community: friendships that extend past a simple hello.
14. We also ran into a few other KI members at the bar!
SUP at the CrossFit Sports Series Area. Since we have been in the sun all day and the line for the stand-up paddle was non-existant, Ana and I decided to chill in the pool. After we went in, a few other guys came. We started talking about doing handstands and burpees on the paddle boards. At first, I was a little scared to do so since I thought I was not balanced enough. Little did we know that the MC was going to announce an impromptu max burpee on the paddle board without falling contest... and everyone in the pool was automatically in the contest! 3-2-1-Go and all of a sudden the burpees came out. I guess a little pressure was all we needed to get over our fears! We beat the boys and won the contest! We received more t-shirts as a prize.
15. Ana on the SUP.
16. Splits time!
17. Headstand on the SUP.
Slackline at the CrossFit Sports Series Area. After spending a good amount of time in the pool, we headed to the slackline. Walking across the kiddy line was really hard. I only got to about halfway after many attempts, but Ana was able to go all the way!
18. Ana on the slackline.
Individual WOD6: Killer Kage. Three rounds for time of:
- 7 Front Squats 225#/155#
- 700m Bike
- 100ft Monkey Bar Traversal
19. Jason got on the bike first!
20. Back to Front Squats.
21. In the "kage!" Some guys were really good at this! On the first round Dan Bailey made the switch without jumping off the bar!
22. Team Khalipa in the stands!!
Saturday was filled with excitement and who would have thought, burpees! There was a lot to do as a spectator at the CrossFit Games, from visiting vendors at their booth to doing Barbell for Boobs' "Amazing Grace." The CrossFit Sport Series had a pool, slackline, horseshoes, beach volleyball, and a corn hole game. There was also a mechanical bull and an area to do a WOD. There were contests to win swag everywhere! Best of all it was all free! Definitely unlike a normal sport event!
