CrossFit is getting so popular in Hawaii! Just when I think I visited all the boxes on Oahu, I hear about a new box that is about to open. This past Saturday was CrossFit Waikiki's grand opening, conveniently during the weekend I was home. CrossFit Waikiki is located in the Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki. There are only a couple boxes on east Oahu so I was very excited for their grand opening. Saves me and everyone else who lives on on this side of the island a long drive in traffic.

Lift Off & Send'em Off!
On Saturday I went to watch and support our new Oly coach, Ian, at the Lift Off & Send'em Off fundraiser event at CrossFit Lifeworx. The purpose of the event was to help raise money for Ian Droze and Shaun Eagen in their quest to compete at the Arnold Sports Festival next week!
In 1.5 hours, Ian and Shaun preformed three lifts: snatch, clean, jerk, for max weight, followed by max back squats at 375#, and then max muscle ups in 2 minutes. Before each movement, people can place bets (donations) on which athlete will lift the most weight. $5 got you in the door. All proceeds from the event went to them in support of their mission to get to the Arnold.

SacTown Throwdown!
Approximately 400 athletes from Northern California competed in the 2012 Sac Town Throwdown at the Placer County Fairgrounds in Roseville, CA this past weekend. Thirty-six teams competed in the open division, twenty-four in the masters, and thirty-two in the novice division. The competition spanned the weekend, with the top eight teams in each division advancing to day two.
Three teams represented NorCal CrossFit this year, two in the open division and one in the master's division. Jason, Pat, Taz, and Cheryl were on team NorCal CrossFit and Alex, Garret, Cat and I were on team NorCal CrossFit Santa Clara. Jojo, Steve, Sally, and Sheryl represented our master's team.

Paleo/Primal Food Shopping with Jes
I've had a couple requests for a blog post on grocery shopping... Paleo/Primal style! Buying quality foods and ingredients does not have to expensive. There is also no need to be OCD with coupon clipping. You just have to be smart about it. I mainly get food from three sources: farmer's market, the web, and grocery stores. I'll discuss each in detail.
At the end of the post, I also included pictures of my refrigerator and pantry.

Paleo Snacks for the Super Bowl
A few Super Bowl paleo/primal friendly snacks
With the Super Bowl around the corner and the end of the Paleo/Primal Challenge, I decided to make a few Paleo/Primal treats so I do not end up eating 5 bags of chips I don't even like on Sunday. After all if I am going to "cheat," it better be on something ridiculously delicious that I cannot make.
These are snacks I plan on making for Sunday: Guacamole, Plantain Chips, Bacon and Guacamole Sammies, Deviled Eggs, Kale Chips, Cran-Ginger Cookies, and of course, meatballs! They are super quick recipes, and delicious enough for all your non-Paleo/Primal friends to enjoy while wasted.
Get ready for a bunch of recipes, including a Paleo dessert, which is a first!
Guacamole | Plantain Chips | Bacon and Guacamole Sammies | Deviled Eggs | Kale Chips | Cran-Ginger Cookies | Marvelous Meatballs
... and more (2013 post!):
Deep Fried Guacamole | Spicy Buffalo Wings + Blue Cheese Sauce | Sweet Potato Fries | Stuffed Mushrooms | Mozzarella-Basil-Tomato Bites
