While in Portland last weekend, I dropped in at CrossFit Stumptown, which is also Catalyst's newest affiliate gym! It was my first time at a Catalyst affiliate gym and I was impressed with my visit.
Tony and team were super accommodating. Since I'm training for Nationals, Casey came in early Saturday morning, at 8am to open the gym so I can get my weightlifting workouts in. I'm so glad Casey did the workout with me so I didn't have to do it alone! After our lifting session, we decided to join the class and finish off with the long partner workout! It's been awhile since I've done a CrossFit workout!

Saturday's workout:
- Partner WOD! In teams of 2, one person working at a time, alternating, 30min AMRAP:
- 5 Push Ups
- 10 KBS 1.5/1pood
- 15 Air Squats
- 250m Run
Some things I really liked here:
- Beautiful, large facility. High ceilings, spacious, multiple garage doors, bright, and lots of light. They also have a separate weightlifting room!
- Catalyst Athletics affiliate gym!
- Clean and organized equipment. They also have a variety of equipment including multiple pull up structures, ropes, airdyne, benches, and lots of platforms.
- High quality classes. Tony & team are knowledgeable, accommodating and motivating. They'll push you and cheer you on while making sure the class is moving safely. Everyone: the coach, your class mates, and people who came in early for the next class, are so supportive. There's so much positive energy around the class that it really motivates you to do the best you can on the workout.
- Tight and friendly community & environment. It was a partner workout where only one person was working at a time. Whenever people were resting, they were cheering on their partners and other people working out. On the run, people would high-five each other if they were running in opposite directions or say something very encouraging if running in the same direction. Whether you are new or just visiting, people will welcome and include you. After class, people hang out.
- Even their website has high engagement. They have a leaderboard, badging, and an activity stream. Gotta love gamification! Working in this emerging space, I had to put it as a perk. Check it out!
- WODHub and gCal integration for workouts. I like how you can see a distribution chart, compare against history, and watch movement standard videos.
- New barbell club launching next week! They will have nice weightlifting barbells (not Rogue/Again Faster ones) and kilo plates! They already have many platforms and jerk boxes.
- Plenty of classes... and even on Sunday's! Weekdays from 5:30am to 8pm. Check out their schedule.
- Open gym for Level 2 members.
- Clean showers & I believe 3 bathrooms!
- Visitor friendly.
Some things that could use improvement:
- Looks like the workout section on the website only covers Monday - Friday workouts. What about the weekend?

I had a ton of fun at CrossFit Stumptown! Huge thank you to Tony and Casey for being super accommodating, opening the gym before class so I can get my workouts in, and hooking me up with a tank. I was definitely taken care of.
I'm sure I'll be visiting Portland again soon. The food is so delicious and I haven't even hit up wine country yet! When that time comes, you bet I'll be back!
