While searching for CrossFit gyms in Minneapolis and emailing owners, I noticed that a bunch of them were owned by the same people. There are 4 chains I can think of to-date in the greater Minneapolis area. My plan was to prioritize visits to the independent gyms.
I was debating between visiting CrossFit Nordeast and another gym so I sent an email to both gyms. Logan's response was enthusiastic and welcoming, while the other gym responded with multiple emails requesting a payment to reserve a spot. This made my decision easy!

I did the 6am class on Friday with Logan, the owner. I didn't quite do the same workout, but this is what the rest of the class did:
- Warm-up: leg swings, shoulder passes, overhead squat, snatch progression
- Snatch, heavy single
- Workout: 5 rounds for time:
- 5 Hang Power Snatch 135#/95#
- 10 Pull Ups
- 15 Box Jumps 24"/20"
Some things I really liked here:
- Homey atmosphere. Even though they just opened recently in May, the overall vibe of the gym is like your old school CrossFit gym but with upgraded equipment.
- Tight community. You know the community is legit when the members are active commenters on the blog. At the gym, I had great conversations with every class attendee. That's a first! People love working out with each other and teaming up during class. Also, when you finish a workout, you cheer you peers on and once everyone has completed the workout, you clean up. No one is left behind.
- Beautiful, clean gym. High ceilings, leveled floor, and also well-lit. Equipment is easy to find and is very organized. They also have couches and an area for chiropractics.
- Variety of equipment: kilo plates and fractional plates, sleds, ropes, tires, prowlers, etc.
- Awesome trainers! Logan's got a big heart and he knows what he's talking about.
- Open gym
- Visitor friendly :)
Some things that could use improvement:
- More class times.

I had a great time at CrossFit Nordeast! If you're in the downtown Minneapolis area, check them out!
